| | | Collared Doves Hi all,
I'm new to this game and will probably get in a muddle,
I desperately need some information on collard doves, a pair has nested in my garden and i have been watching them daily as they are low down in the tree, they are two weeks old today, as my husband walked past the tree the parent shot out followed by one of the young I am now worried it will not survive as it is so young the other chick is still there please can anyone help. I need to know if the one that has dissapeared, will it survive and will the parent find it to feed it, and will the one still in the nest get fed.
I do hope someone will be able to help me
Thanks
Chrissie. |

A difficult one to answer.
Collared Doves are quite shy and easily startled so i guess this is what happened.
They normally fledge after about 15 to 19 days so your baby was pretty close to it anyway.
Most adult birds normally have ways of finding there young so i am guessing all will be well..........hopefully.
Lets hope the instinct to look after there young kicks in.
Sorry can't be of more help to you...........maybe some of the more knowledgable members may be of help. |

| | | Re: Collared Doves We had a whole nest that collared doves had built in our robinia last year, which is a very flimsy tree, fall out, with chicks inside. We lifted the nest and chicks into a little old bucket, tied a string to the handle and hoisted it back into the tree. The parents watched us do this and when we had gone, came back. A few days later, both chicks fledged. Sadly one was got by a cat but the other did fine. Don't worry too much, instinct will probably bring the parent back. ww
By the way.....welcome and please let us know the outcome. Cheers ww |

| | | Re: Collared Doves Doves always seem to build nests in the mosr stupid places, we had one right out in the open this year on the side of a conifer. They hatched the young and after about a week the chicks got taken by a crow.
Birds will usually look after the young ok, just leave them to it and they'll be fine, the worse thing you can usually do is try to help | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
