Hello from Sunny St Andrews

Hello I am new to this site, I only found it because I got so excited as I have just spotted my first swallow of 2008 and was Googling to find out if ours was a first for this bit of Scotland. Swallows have nested in our barn for all of the 20 years we have lived here and each year we eagerly await their return. Does this truly mean we might actually get a summer this year? It has been sunny today but it has also been dark dismal and wet all within the space of a couple of hours.

Re: Hello from Sunny St Andrews

Hi Tallulahthehen, Don't know about the swallows, but welcome to WAB. I spent 6 happy years living at Leuchars. Lots of great walks on the beaches at St Andrews and down at Tentsmuir. I'ld move back tomorrow if I could. Oh and the bars in St A's, very happy days.

Re: Hello from Sunny St Andrews

Hi and a warm welcome to WAB. You live in a beautiful part of Scotland with a fantastic golf course and there is lots of wildlife around that area.
I haven't seen a swallow here in central Scotland yet but my god I do hope it's a good sign for the summer

Welcome to WAB Tallulahthehen, I hope that one swallow does'nt make a summer and that you get lots more swallows to go with it. Enjoy the site.

Unhappy Re: Hello from Sunny St Andrews

Thanks for all the messages of welcome, things are not so sunny here now, dismal weather and rain, great for April, NOT . Great sadness here too , Last week I eventually got four garden fantail dove babies for my dove cote, an anniversary present from my old man after a happy 34 years.

They were in a cote under a homing net as advised bythe breeder. Yesterda my neighbours lab got in, destroyed the net by chewing large holes in it and then managed to kill all four young doves on the ground, why they did not flutter up the cote I do not know. Maybe too panicked by a very large leaping dog. Anyway he killed all four. I am devastated that they suffered that way. I had great visions of them flying free in six weeks, it would have been great. The collared doves in the garden appear to be eyeing up the cote with suspicon so I may just leave it empty and see what happens next.

Re: Hello from Sunny St Andrews

Sorry to here Tallulahthehen, what the neighbours dog has done. My sympathy goes out to you. Can you get the neighbour to keep his dog under control this really is unacceptable.
I would be horrified if my dog caused some so much distress.
