| | | Hello from Halifax Hi,
I am into pretty much all wildlife but would probably tend towards birds given the choice. I also like mammals but find them infuriatingly elusive - although that does make it all the more special when you do see them.
I also enjoy photography and currently use a now slightly dated I guess Nikon D70, usually with a 70-400mm Nikon VR lens which is a fabulous lens. Have had sharp shots hand held at 400mm and 1/30 sec and have found it fairly dependable sharp at 1/60sec.

| | | Re: Hello from Halifax Hello Andrew a warm welcome, There are lots of Nikon enthusiasts on here and the Nikon 70-400mm VR lens is a great lens by all accounts.
I'm a Canon man but don't hold that against me. Hope to see some of your images soon.

| | | Re: Hello from Halifax Thanks to all. Of course I don't hold it against you Ollie...... I wondered which way to go myself I must admit and in all honesty Canon as a bigger company often seems to be in the lead. At the time though the D70 was way above the rest of the field in it's price range - of course with the spec is has almost been reduced to been available via cornflake tokens now it would seem! lol
A good friend of mine bought a canon and i thought it maybe had the edge on speed of autofocusing but then again it was a newer model... in the end the skill of the photographer outweighs equipment I suppose though it does help! |

| | | Re: Hello from Halifax Hello Andrew and welcome to the site, I have a Nikon D80 myself and find it a very good camera, like you I was tempted to go for the Canon, but the model Canon had out to rival the D80 was the 400D, and after trying both out in the shop I deceided the Nikon fitted more comfortably in my hand, it was a close call though.
Anyway enjoy the site, and look forward to seeing your photo's.

| | | Re: Hello from Halifax Hi welsh.lensman, would be interesting to compare the 2 as I know that there were supposed to be quite a few improvements between the D70 and the D80. Friend of mine has just got a D3 and has already taken some absolutely amazing photos with it!! |

| | | Re: Hello from Halifax Hi Andy, a warm welcome to WAB from me. I know what you mean about mammals being elusive. It's so frustrating at times. I've photographed many things, Snakes, insects, birds, would be great to get a mammal for a change (besides my dogs ).

Welcome from another newbie here. One of the cameras I own is an Olympus E500 which has been superseded once and shortly will be again (E510 and now the promised E520). I would not part with it though as it is extremely reliable and takes fab images although not up to the current spec.
Enjoy your stay here. I have been pleasantly surprised by how many people have given a very warm welcome.
