| | | Hello from Cumbria Hello all....I live in a small village in the Eden Valley, Cumbria, tucked in under the Pennines. Lots of Wildlife, we have Red Squirrels in the garden, some beautiful Woodpeckers, as well as the usual garden birds. There are Buzzards nesting in the woods behind the house, also Roe deer to be seen fairly often. Take a walk up the back field and there are Stoats and Weasels popping in and out of the dry stone walls, and there are Otters in the nearby river, thats if you can take your eyes off the Kingfishers and all the other water birds.
It is a truly beautiful place to live and I feel very priviledged to be able to see all of this on a daily basis. |

| | | Re: Hello from Cumbria Wow..............That sounds lovely, you are lucky. I have a house at the back of me and a busy road out the front and planes going overhead, for wildlife I have cats in the garden (shoo) and they sing at night. Its not that bad really. Anyway welcome here.............Jon |

| | | Re: Hello from Cumbria Welcome to you Het, from another lovely part of this beautiful British Isles - North Yorkshire. Cumbria is a place we love to visit and from your description of where you live I imagine it's once place you are reluctant to leave often.
I am sure the birds and mammals you mentioned are pretty close to many of us - it's just a case of 'standing and staring' now and again.

| | | Re: Hello from Cumbria Het welcome, I envy you the Stoats and Weasels The areas with dry stone walls are few now as people steal the stone for crazy paving in their gardens.
I can remember stoats doing a little show, chasing their tails rolling about in the open moving back toward cover with a bird or rabbit watching with fascination until hypnotised then the stoat would pounce!
