Smile Purpose built bird cafe

Hi everyone,
Saw the question about pets.
We have beautiful twin ‘tabby’ cats (they have white bits) called Sunny (boy) and Daisy (girl) who nearly ten years ago were abandoned and taken in by the local rescue centre. We also have an unknown quantity (only seen one) of wild, if not now livid, rats. Livid because their food supply has now been raised onto a very fine bird table created and positioned today by H (husband). Cheese, soaked bread, apple, hanging nuts, fir cones covered in lard now adorn the slate roofed rat free zone…hopefully. After 3 hours of careful viewing of our new bird café we had a visit from one starling…early days.
I found this site because I would love to know how to make bird food from lard?,fat?,nuts?. Bit Blue Peter but must make use of those scraps for smaller birds.

Hi bluebell wood, welcome to the site. your bird café sounds good. I like the fur cone idea, I might steel that on for my garden. There was a thread on make your own fat balls a while ago. You could do a search. I will have a look see if I can find it. How do you get rats with the cats around??

Re: Purpose built bird cafe

Thank you for your help.
Cats, rat population? It's winter my cats prefer to sleep by the log fire. They get fatter in winter but I don't think it is anything to do with rodents. It's as much as they can do to drag themselves outside when it is bedtime. They sleep in the garage.

Re: Purpose built bird cafe

Hi goosey
The cafe is very quiet. Saw one blackbird yesterday.. on the ground... under the table. I replenished stocks this morning, but the weather is terrible with wind and rain. Its not fit to send a bird out.
