Dai | you are quite correct dai - i generally oppose direct action for precicely this reason , and also because it makes campaigners look like extremists - however i lost my temper on this occasion and acted in an intemperate manner - it seems that even i am not quite perfect.
That said to clarify it wasnt just that she was wearing fur that got my blood boiling , but her bimble brained speech about what lovely animals they must be to have such soft fur and how it was a real shame that there arent more left

As far as I'm concerned, good on ya Pete - there are times when a bit of direct (albeit illegal) action seems the most appropriate response and, on a more profound note, as an old and well-respected lawyer once said to me - "I'm afraid there are occasions when in order to achieve justice one has to step outside the law"

So if someone comes along and runs a key along the side of your car because they think yor car isn't green enough, you catch them at it and ask them what the heck they are doing, it's OK if their response is "it seems like an appropriate thing to do". And of course you are going to say, oh thats OK then your just making your point.
Just because you have strong beliefs in something it does not give you the right to break the law.
I think all the people who commended Pete on his actions are hypocrit's because if someone did a simailar thing to them I don't think you would be so forgiving.

Dai | Dai, so you've never broken a single law eh - eg speeding? Remember this - if many of the laws of the past had not been broken by people of principle we wouldn't enjoy the freedoms we have today

Dai | As I have already said it is not something i am particularly proud of or would advocate for others - but like i said i lost my temper - have you never lost yours ? - if so it must be nice to be perfect
I would also guess that those who have commended me would not have been sitting in a coffee house wearing snow leo fur while esposing the view that its a shame more arent left in the wild - in itself a massively hypocritical possition.

| | | Re: Snow leopard documentary Question? Hi all
I watched the documentary today during my flight to JoBurg and got so intrigued that I searched the web for more details. I must say I am extremely lucky for not only see a snow leo cub but also hold and cuddle him (his name is leo) and he was found at the age of few weeks old by Pakistan rangers near Khunjerab Pass national park (Khunjerab Pass (el. 4693 m./15,397 ft.) is a high mountain pass on the northern border of Pakistan-administered Kashmir (Northern Areas of Pakistan) with China, It is also the highest point on the Karakoram Highway ) I took the old silk route trip with my frinds in October 2005.
Point is, life of the farmers are tough but there NO way they will leave their life style even according to western standards and logical thinking its not worth. Its a beauty of nature and truth about different cultures. Its same in Africa where farmers kill cheetahs to save their life stock! Few years ago with the help of De Wild Cheetah conservation and other groups, they have trained a breed of dogs that live with goats like a goat but when they see a cheetah they defend the heard like a dog (if that makes any sense).
I know this message is not covering any of originally asked question but where Iam getting at the most important thing! funding! Govt. of Pakistan dont spend a penny on saving wild life/nature and there are not many groups/individual spending time and money as there is not enough information is available at all, some people like Imran Khan, Michael Palin has/and still doing a lot of work in terms of general awareness but that’s not enough.
I would highly recommend to visit Chitral, Gilgit, Hunza Valey and Khunjerab Pass, More people go to the area more better would be for local wild life and more well-off and aware be the local people who are extremely friendly and lovely (nothing like scary "Taliban" you see on the Tele ) | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
