Hi all
I watched the documentary today during my flight to JoBurg and got so intrigued that I searched the web for more details. I must say I am extremely lucky for not only see a snow leo cub but also hold and cuddle him (his name is leo) and he was found at the age of few weeks old by Pakistan rangers near Khunjerab Pass national park (Khunjerab Pass (el. 4693 m./15,397 ft.) is a high mountain pass on the northern border of Pakistan-administered Kashmir (Northern Areas of Pakistan) with China, It is also the highest point on the Karakoram Highway ) I took the old silk route trip with my frinds in October 2005.
Point is, life of the farmers are tough but there NO way they will leave their life style even according to western standards and logical thinking its not worth. Its a beauty of nature and truth about different cultures. Its same in Africa where farmers kill cheetahs to save their life stock! Few years ago with the help of De Wild Cheetah conservation and other groups, they have trained a breed of dogs that live with goats like a goat but when they see a cheetah they defend the heard like a dog (if that makes any sense).
I know this message is not covering any of originally asked question but where Iam getting at the most important thing! funding! Govt. of Pakistan dont spend a penny on saving wild life/nature and there are not many groups/individual spending time and money as there is not enough information is available at all, some people like Imran Khan, Michael Palin has/and still doing a lot of work in terms of general awareness but that’s not enough.
I would highly recommend to visit Chitral, Gilgit, Hunza Valey and Khunjerab Pass, More people go to the area more better would be for local wild life and more well-off and aware be the local people who are extremely friendly and lovely (nothing like scary "Taliban" you see on the Tele

)
