| | | Hello from the Hamster on the Run household Just a quick hello and Merry Christmas to everyone, really as light relief from trying to entice my daughters hamster back in it's cage. It made a run for it in the night by hurling itself against the cage door, and is now living under the cupboard. So, either I am going to play the long game and hope it comes out to eat. Or dismantle the cupboard. Or get next doors cat in.
Otherwise it'll be traumatic Christmas, with tales of how the hamster escaped on my watch!

| | | Re: Hello from the Hamster on the Run household Hi, its going to be hardwork getting your hamster back in the cage - I hope you dont have to resort to the cat Good luck!
Years ago we had an aquarium and some how one of the crabs escaped and I saw it walking across the floor - I didn't realise what it was and thought it was a spider (a red one? ) and had a screaming fit stood on a chair. It was just dissapearing behind the fire surround when I realised what it - I felt so awful and couldn't get to it at all. Four days later a very dusty cobwebby crab emerged no worse foe wear -I never expected to see it again!
There's hope for your hamster!
Anyway - welcome to WAB and a Happy Christamas to you too - if your girls are still speaking to you . |

a warm welcome to WAB, sorry to hear you've got the hamster on the loose, it happened to me years ago and he vanished down the side of the water pipes thought I'd never see it again as we had a cat and a Jack Russell , a couple of weeks later the terrier was going mad at my eubank in the cupboard under the stairs I lifted it and opened the tray yes it was a very dirty hamster , he must have made his way down through the wall cavity as he had escaped upstairs.
Looking forward to more posts and photos.
Carol.

| | | Re: Hello from the Hamster on the Run household Well, the good news is the hamster returned to its cage. I saw it mid morning around the cupboard, and put its cage back on the floor near to it. Come 9pm there was the familiar squeak of its wheel going round so we belted back into the study and locked the cage door quick! With extra wire!
So, Christmas looking up. Although not for the pet shop, who might have been up for any extra purchase |

My wife trains our children's hamsters to come to her hand when she calls. Vast quantities of choccy drops are employed. However it pays dividends when the little blighters escape (hamsters I mean, not children) as they will come out from behind cupboards etc when she calls!
Very useful - especially as most breakouts occur at night.
We had two russian hamsters that were more often out than in. we called them Hilts and Ives - after characters in the traditional Xmas film!
