| | Living in Devon Hi,
My brother suggested I visit this site because I keep asking him for information about the wildlife I am encountering in Devon. (I have recently moved here) I am very glad I took up his suggestion. I have so many questions regarding the wildlife here and I am hoping someone will have some answers.
During late summer there was a tiny bird here about the size of a wren but thinner, it was dark brown, almost black, short tailed, with white marking on its wings. (I've looked in my bird identification book and can't find it in there) It doesn't appear to be from either the 'tit' or 'finch' family. What is strange about this little bird is that it flies along the ground, in and out of wheels of parked cars and around my ankles! It doesn't seem to stop to feed, although I assume it must. By late October it had disappeared and I never got a photograph of it. I wondered if it was a juvenile. Does this ring a bell with anyone? |

a warm welcome to WAB, I can't help you with the bird ID but I am sure some of the birders will come through with some suggestions. Looking forward to your posts and photos.

I was just wondering, as you're in north Devon, are you familiar with Peppercombe Valley? Its a glorious wooded valley running down to the sea, about half way between Bideford and Hartland (privately owned but with a public footpath running its length).
I spent a couple of holidays there when I was a teenager (about 40 years ago) and just starting to get interested in nature, and the wildlife there was fantastic. I have often wondered how the place has fared since. Do you know it at all?

| | | Re: Living in Devon Hi,
I am really embarrassed to say that I have never been to Peppercombe Valley. There are so many places I want to visit here but as yet have not been able to. I only moved here the end of August. But I googled it and it looks gorgeous, so it is going to the top of my list. According to the web site dedicated to it, the valley is doing great. Take a look yourself. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
