Hello, from a new member

Just found this site from a link someone gave on the Beeb boards.

I grew up in a village, with fields and woods all around me, so wildlife played a big part of my childhood, I'm 43 now! Sadly, I don't live in the same sort of area, but do get a few birds/other wildlife in the garden. As a teenager, I went on RSPCA and YOC courses and thoroughly enjoyed them and learning more than I already knew. I got to hand feed a rescued Badger on one of them. That experience will stay with me for the rest of my life.

I have a few stress related problems, so not working atm, but may in time get back into something, soon.

Hope to speak to you soon.

Keith

Re: Hello, from a new member

Thanks for the warm welcome, folks. Yes Neil, handfeeding a Badger was one of those things you will never forget. I grew up in the country, as previously stated, and regulary watched Badgers from a distance, but to hand feed one was very exciting. I don't think the Badger minded either! I hope it got to go back to the wild. The weird thing is, as much as I enjoyed it and will never forget it, I can't remember why it had been rescued in the first place.

G'day Keith from another new member and maybe the most distant one from m here Queensland. Your youthful surroundings sound like mine. All my childhood hedges and forest have long since gone. However, I left them behind to replace them with the bush of Australia . Hope you enjoy your stay...P.s. my name is also Keith

Here is where I lived as a child, surrounded my fields and woods, it was great. The garden is slightly different now, as the new owners took away the holly hedge and the nice big apple tree in the garden, that I had a swing attached to.

I still would love to be back there, but as it was in the middle of nowhere, I needed a ~7 mile bus ride into school. It was a tied cottage (my Dad was a gardener for a rich person) and when my Dad's boss died, my parents moved into a town. It was just that nearly every day I would see, Robins, Blackbirds, Starlings, Blue Tits, Marsh Tits, Coal Tits, Great Tits, Treecreepers, Nuthatches, 3 types of Woodpecker, Jays, Greenfiches, Siskins, Barn and Tawny Owls, Buzzards, Kestrels............. I could go on, but I am depressing myself again. I think you get the drift. I did a five hour sponsored birdwatch for the YOC once and found 114 species!! Will they still be there now I wonder?

Anyway, must go lunch beckons. I have some threads to read, as I have a few things I want to talk about and want to know other poster's opinions. I just don't want to start up a new thread, if it's been mentioned before!

Keith

Hi Keith and welcome to WAB from me!

Awww, I can see how pained you are to have left that lovely spot, but hey, just enjoy the wildlife you're getting in your garden now as the smallest thing can really lift your spirits!

Welcome to W.A.B Keith. Even from high up, it looks a fantastic place to grow up. I'm really quite envious!
