Smile Not exactly new......

........but just thought I'd say hello to everyone here. Errr.....Hello. As you can guess from my joining date, I don't post much. I think part of the reason is it's harder to post pics here than on most forums but thats my choice of course. Rules is rules

At 60 and with more than 40 years in photography and wildlife in particular I think I would class myself as 'enthusiast'. Favourite subjects are dragons & damsels, butterflies and insects in that order. Pity that most of our mammals are nocturnal by nature as I would just love to spend more time in this field, my most desired subject, albeit a bit of a disaster so far, would be the Pine Marten and Otter. Had opportunities with both but captive, just not the same as wild. If anyone knows a good spot for these around Galloway forest in June 08 I would be delighted to hear of it

Photographically I am a Minolta man with a wide range of both film and digital equipment for 35mm, medium format and digital. CurrentlyI use the Minolta 7D and Sony A100 dslr's. Currently saving for the new A700. Macro, in the field or studio (read: garden shed) is my prefered method while I also like to dabble with bird photography.

Anyone looking for info around the Selby area please feel free to drop me a line.

Denis.

Hi Denis, welcome from me too . I look forward to seeing some of your images, the gallery has changed recently and is much simpler to use now. I hope you get your photos of some Pine Martens and Otters soon!

Hmmmm, matter of opinion. Two things hold me back. The t&c re rights to the pictures posted and the fact that after cooking my pics for my own web sites I have to do the whole thing all over again to post pics here. Working up to 6 days a week, 10 hours a day I just dont have that sort of time I'm afraid. I do post on other forums though because I only need to do the img link. Here it's non negotiable so I am willing to live with that.

Hi Ron. I think you mean 'were' a bargain though, recent ebay prices, especially on G glass (if you can find it!) have been ridiculous. One 600mm G lens is reported to have sold for over £6000 at a private photographic equipment auction but I can't find the link reference now. That's pretty much what they used to be new. Wonder what Sony's new version will cost, for sure I won't be able to afford one

Re: Not exactly new......

Densig,
I had some problem uploading too when I started, try this if you want to upload to a new thread to ask for help with identification say. first of all go to Gallery, click on Archives, then click on upload , select the pic from your files on your PC and upload into Archives. Go back into Forum and click on new thread, and maybe you want to ask the forum for help in ID ,so write your request and then go to Gallery, click on Archives, then on Forum Images, select your photo, click on your photo then scroll down and you will see the Forum Code ,Left click on the line of letters it goes to blue, right click and copy. go back to your thread and left click to get your cursor then right click and paste, your photo will show as the Forum Code in letters, Position it below the paragraph you have written and submit your Thread.
Hope this works for you,
Duncan

Thanks for that Duncan, good info and works fine

Problem is that to post a pic, first I have to download it from my on-line gallery into a file just so that I can upload it again to WAB and then type in all the info again. I dont keep the pics I post on-line at that size on my computer. Also, the t&c's don't make posting large files a viable proposition due to copyright issues. Most places are right click, copy link, paste link, job done. I see now it's not difficult at all, just time consuming (I don't have a lot of that) and seemingly long-winded to post a pic.

I also note that any pic uploaded via Archives is not credited to the poster and doesn't show up on "my photos". If I drop a 'wotsit' with an ID (see elsewhere) it's either difficult to find and ammend or I haven't quite sussed it yet................working on it though

Thanks for the info

Denis.
