| | | Re: new member Hi Roy, we all love wildlife here so you are in good company. I don't know much about your sport but have seen demonstrations at the world owl centre at Muncaster Castle in Cumbria, which included other birds of prey apart from owls. Magnificent birds! Welcome to the friendliest site around! |

| | | Re: new member Where are you based Roy? Do you fly hawks and falcons for your own pleasure or do you work at a falconry centre? I've been doing some hawking recently too with the help of a local guy and his friend who own HHs (one male and one female). I just love working with the birds to be honest, and hope one day to work with wild birds of prey |

He has lots of permissions in the lothian and borders area and I've seen some great flying from both birds, especially the little male. He's totally on the ball where as the female is much more laid back! lol
I'm up in Scotland, but if I ever get down to Yorkshire I'll let you know |

Even though technically you were here before me.
Hawks are nice but I have a problem with Sparrowhawks, who haunt our valley. They take tits, sparrows and pretty well anything that files out in the open.
Heres my problem.
I'm trying to encourage diversity in the vally, as best I can without being heavy handed. But Sparrowhawks are taking many of the small birds I am trying to encourage.
You got any advice on discouraging them? Bear in mind, they are truly magnificent things and I welcome them. But they are starting to get the upper hand in the valley. |

I'm new here too The fact that you have a sparrowhawk indicates you have a healthy population of prey (like songbirds). You shouldn't try to discourage the hawk, just make sure you continue to encourage the other birds and they will sort themselves out
I realise I'm not 'Austringer' but I thought I'd give my thoughts on your question too. I'm sure Roy will be around soon |

| | | Re: new member hi there really i can;t really add anything to your question about the spars or spar. as bueto beuto as answered it basicly the same way as i would have done. but no matter what anyone can say or do a sparrow hawk is a preditor. and a oppertunist hunter. if they is prey where it hunts it will stay in that area just let nature really take its course i hope it dosent take to much prey but who knows it as to survie. sorry i could;nt help any moore roy |
