Greetings from Lincolnshire

Hi everyone, my real name is David, my wife Leslie (yes the boys way ) and I live out in the Fens of Lincolnshire, I'm an RSPB member and do some reports on migratory birds. We have two ponds, a dyke with the normal Moorhens, but occassionally Swans nest and rear their young there. We get Mallards on the ponds, you can always tell by the oil traces on the surface. The Herons visit, but they are too deep for wading. We have a resident Marsh Harrier and a Sparrow Hawk who seems to love our trees and nooks and crannies. Being surrounded by fields means we get to see the numbers of visitors, the first House Martins are in, the number of Hares are up this year, after a long decline.
I'm mostly into Owls and have done a few rescues, I just wish people would release their home bred owls at dusk, any other Owlers out there?

Re: Greetings from Lincolnshire

Hello David, Leslie, welcome to the WAB forum. You seem to live in a very nice place by the sounds of it.

Isn't it dodgy releasing captive bred owls, when they haven't learnt how to hunt, and don't you need a license for this? Just curious.

Hope to hear more from you both

Thanks for the welcome, here's a bit of the view. And I'll do the garden next. With Owls, yes you should get a licence from your Local Authority, but so many simply don't bother, there have loads of Barn Owls that survive a bad flight experience and break a wing that are then taken to well meaning souls that have a similar owl and if the sexes are ok, then they breed from them. After the Harry Potter films young birds were taken from nests etc.
