Wink nettles

Collecting nettles for years, I've got myself a very bitter batch. Grateful if anyone can tell me why. Mikal-ray

Hi Mikal-ray, absolitely no idea I am afraid, hopefully someone else will be able to tell you. What do you actually collect nettles for, do you make tea or a poultice or something? Welcome to WAB, I hope you get your answer .

Re: nettles

Hi Mikal-ray,

a warm welcome to WAB, looking forward to more interesting posts on nettles - are you into wine making or do you cook them, I have heard the young shoots are delicious.

Carol.

Re: nettles

what do you want nettles for?

It's quite funny that a lot of plants look just like stinging nettles actually and dont sting at all ... interesting how they've evolved that way x

Re: nettles

Hi, I have eaten nettles many years ago at my mates house with Sunday lunch. A bit like spinach as I recall.

Re: nettles

That sounds really horrible Badger. Were they raw or boiled, fried or something? I know people can make nettle soup but it is something that really does not appeal to me, having had quite a few bad experience with stinging nettles in the past

The leaves should be young and they are boiled. once the nettles flower they become mildly toxic.
