| | | Hello From a Gamekeeper Hi All,
My name's James, I'm a gamekeeper from Gloucestershire. I've been 'lurking' for a while now, and it's very refreshing to find a forum where drastically opposing views seem to be treated in an adult, respectful way.
I look forward to participating (Although probably not all that often as I'm very busy at this time of year.)
Cheers, James |

Enjoy the site when you get time

The floods didnt affect me too much, but the general wet weather has caused me a lot of trouble, I had to keep my birds back on the rearing field for a few weeks after they were due to go to wood, meaning they didnt have much chance to get used to the release pen before they worked out they could get out of it! Therefore they're all over the place, and my little dog and me are working hard trying to keep them on the estate!
Cheers, James |

I'm sure there is more to gamekeeping than just keeping the poachers at bay , so look forward to hearing of your observations on nature, wildlife, Joe public, and as mentioned earlier, how the weather affects your job.

| | | Re: Hello From a Gamekeeper Welcome to the forum James. It will be very interesting to get the views of a gamekeeper on wildlife issues such as foxes, Badgers and birds of prey etc, in relation to farming and estates.
Could make for some interesting discussions |

Yeah I've got a gypsy bred lurcher bitch, mostly saluki x whippet, shes 24" to the shoulder and 35lb hard weight. I got her at 3 1/2 months from gypsies, they'd never let her out of the shed she was born in, she was full of worms, fleas and conjunctivitis , hid under the TV table for a week. Now she works all legal quarry, works with ferrets, beats, hunts up, and lamps Really proud of her, hence my username!
A saluki is a desert bred coursing hound, bred for running antelope. Their stamina is outstanding, as an example, a typical greyhound course (Pre-ban) would be expected to last 2 minutes tops, a saluki course would have lasted around 4-5 minutes. There will be loads on google I would imagine.

| | | Re: Hello From a Gamekeeper that's great! unfortunately, apart from the occasional squirrel or Rabbit, our dog (also about 24 inches!)has a bit of an easy life, she's still young, and we don't work her.she is absolutely gorgeous ,though,as most lurchers are! if we let her, she'd lie in bed all day, she's so lazy.your dog sounds a nice type, nice to meet another lurcher owner!again, a warm welcome to the site |
