| | Hello from West Yorkshire Hi,
Stumbled across this website a few weeks ago, time to say hello.
I'm a keen walker which over the years has provoked my interest in wildlife and nature in general. I do a fair bit of bird watching both of the garden and reserves.
Being in West Yorkshire I find there are so many places to go I'm dizzy, central for east / west coast (90mins), the Dales and Peak District not to mention North Yorks Moors plus there are loads of other places in Easy Yorkshire and South Yorkshire as well as the South Pennines.
Today I was at Haw Park Wood and Wintersett Reservoir near Wakefield and saw a fantastic pair of Sparrowhawks both perched about 5 metres from where I was sitting. They were both hunting and one of them managed to grab a sparrow or similar. They also managed to scare my westie who has been napping on my lap into the back of the car!
cheers

Welcome to the site.Sounds like you are living in an ideal place for wildlife, the worst bit must be deciding where to go!
All the best,

Welcome to WAB! I hope you really enjoy this website!
Thought I'd say hello, as I'm new myself and as I think my story is similar to yours, in that I'm chiefly a walker but through that have gradually developed an interest in various aspects of nature. About 14 years ago, I started bird watching - I'd always been vaguely interested, but what really started me was a fantastic sighting of a short-toed eagle when I was on a walking holiday in the Pyrenees. For the last year or so I've been interested in wildflowers - again that was started on one of my walks, when I saw an Orchid. About the same time, I started taking notice of the different butterflies I was seeing on my walks. On my walk today I took my first ever photo of a damselfly - so perhaps thats the start of another interest!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy Wild About Britain. No doubt we'll come across each other on the Birds and other Forums.
