| | And then came a spider... Hi
I found my way here trying to identify a spider I spotted in my garden. Turns out it was a garden spider...
Something tells me I'm going to learn a lot here, and enjoy doing it.
Live by a canal in London, boring job, love trees, flowers, plants and green things in general. Favorite moment of the day is sharing breakfast with my canal friends; coots, mallards, moorhens, chaffinches, carp, bream, geese, wrens and woodpigeons. Oh, and spiders. |

A warm welcome to WAB, always wanted to live on a canal or by one, you are fortunate to share breakfast with your canal friends, having said that I share mine with my woodland friends . Looking forward to your posts and photos.
Carol.

How lucky to live so near to such a fantastic ecosystem I'm very jealous (though not about the spiders! I love insects but still am not too keen on our 8-legged friends when they get too close )

Yes, the canal is a wonderful place to live beside, after years of living in a very, very crowded part of London it was absolute bliss to have been able to move here as I'm really a country girl at heart (I was born and mostly brought up in a rural environment).
I have a few photos to show and stories to tell, but have to admit that at the moment I'm reading the forum avidly, and have already joined my local bat group as a result - I see what I think may be pipistrelles locally and am now determined to find out if that is what they are.
Oh, and the thing with spiders? Once I realised that the more spiders there were about the place, the fewer flies there are in my home, I began to really appreciate them. I'm on first name terrms with the 8 or so currently co-habiting with me. We do occasionally have minor disputes about the placing of webs, but nothing a few feathers can't settle
