| | hello I found this site while I was looking for some help identifying some wildlife in my garden.
I live in north manchester with my hubby and 3 kids, I'm a complete novice when it comes to wildlife but we're trying to encourage more wildlife into our garden and doing quite well, problem is we're not sure what some of it is! |

| | | Re: hello Hello wilddawn, its great to hear of so many doing their bit for nature and wanting to attract wildlife to garden. I think that those who do it get as much from it as the insects, birds and other wildlife do! - it's so rewarding. Anything that you are unsure about ask here and a photo if poss' and someone is bound to be able to help.Welcome to WAB |

I'm loving the site, very interesting and lots of friendly people. Since joining yesterday I've realised I might have a Wood Mouse in my garden, until yesterday I didn't even realise they where so common!
So far in our garden we've managed to attract the usual birds, toads, foxes, Hedgehogs and we have bats fly over. We've not yet got a bird to use our nest box, they prefer the roof! and we're planning to start a wildlife pond in November, so I'm glad I found this site. |

Welcome to WAB, enjoy | TBH I think it's been more luck than anything, we have a small wooded area and a stream not far down the road so I think the wildlife has spread from there. We had Fox get it's head stuck in our cat flap not long after we moved in, poor thing managed to get it's own head loose by breaking the cat flap and the bats where allready flying over the garden. My favorite though was a newt we found on our path, I used to see loads of newts when I was a kid but this was the first one I'd seen in years, that was when I decided I wanted a wildlife garden with a pond but we waited for our youngest to grow a bit first. I'm waffling now, what I wanted to say is I think we've been very lucky. |

We've tried a few veg/fruit with very mixed results and I've planted wildflowers but only a few survived, I have 2 bunnies that love new shoots! We have a Hazel tree at the end of the garden and we've let the grass grow behind that, it's at the end of our garden that I think the hedghog has settled under our shed, we planted rasberries down there too, they've settled in well and produce lots of fruit but the wildlife get to most of them before we do.
We have a swing/slide and trampoline in the back garden so I'm amazed we've done so well with the wildlife. I also own a cat but his idea of hunting is sitting at the bottom of the tree meowing. |
