Smile Hi! New person here!

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the site, and very pleased to be here. I've been reading the diffierent forums over the last few weeks and thought it would be good to join - it looks like a great site, very informative and friendly.

I live in the mid Pennines in a beautiful spot, and I'm lucky enough to have some lovely wildlife on my doorstep - little owls, hares, lapwings and curlews in the surrounding fields, deer and woodpeckers in the nearby woods.

I'm off to the isle of Islay in two weeks for a wildlife - focussed holiday, and I can't wait. Anyone been there?

I hope to build my personal page before long so I'll put a bit more about myself on there.

Look forward to chatting with you in the forums,

Emma

Re: Hi! New person here!

Hello Emma, if you have been hanging round the forum for a while there is no need to tell you how good it is here. Have a great trip to Islay, I hope you manage plenty of photo's to share with us, I have never been so it will be nice to be able to see it through your images.
Welcome to WAB and have fun here.

Hi Emma

Welcome to WAB.

You live in a beautiful part of the country. I usually have a visit to the Pennines/Yorkshire Dales National Park each spring.

Islay? .... no, I have never been but it is on my "must do" list and the Springwatch coverage this year has got me thinking again! I may go up there in October/November when the winter geese are arriving. Enjoy your trip and let us know what you did and what you saw.

Richard

Re: Hi! New person here!

Hi Emma
I'm from Islay. You will have a great time here. there is plenty of wildlife to see. I suggest that you get in touch with a wild life guide called Jeremy - he runs a company called Islay Birding - Tel. 01496 8500100. He can show show you some amazing wild life . There is also the nature reserves at the Oa and Gruinart. They do regular walks. There is another guide at Gearach who can take you through the forest for photogaphy - cant remember his phone at the moment.

Re: Hi! New person here!

Thanks a lot for that info, Islayhawk, I'll take it with me. I was thinking about contacting Islay Birding, I definately will now!

How's the weather up there? If you see a battered blue fiat punto driving around the island it's me - give me a wave, lol!

Re: Hi! New person here!

Hi Emma
I will keep my eyes open. Weather is not too bad. A few showers but in the main it is dry, on the west coast it would not be normal it we did not have rain - I dont think we will ever get used to it. Maybe in a thousand years we will be born with webbed feet.
I do not know when you are coming over, or where you are staying - but whenever and wherever I am sure you will enjoy yourself - there is lots to see.
regards
