They are at Whisby, although I've never seen them there. I've never been there at the right time. (Late Evening.) Whisby has a good visitor centre, with an excellent cafe doing good food and drinks at reasonable prices. Does the best prawn salad I've ever had! |

My camera equipment is a digiscoping set up and virtually all my shots are through my scope.
I'm a long way from the star of this website. You should treat yourself by looking at a few of our real stars like Fourwings, digi, wolfhill, and many more. We have some incredible photographers in WAB and my shots pale into insignificance alongside most of their shots.

John | I totally disagree with you John, Digiscoping is not easy and your images are some off the best I have seen. You are able to capture birds that are only dots in our lenses. Keep them comming!

Yes I do win out over DSLR when it comes to birds beyond the DSLR range but we have to be really honest here. Within the DSLR range the digiscoping camera I use is nowhere near as good with an image as the DSLR is. The DSLR will always win hands down in the hands of a competent photographer.
The problem my camera has with close up's is that a close up is always through the scope and you tend to lose some of the detail that way. It tends to give a softer image whereas the DSLR can bring out a pin perfect image almost every time.

whats the best bird have you seen there? | My best sighting would be the four little grebes a couple of weeks ago. Others I've seen there are Great Spotted Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, 6 bull finches, 20+ goldfinches, 25+ long tailed tits, Loads of Great tits, Blue tits, coal tits, dunnocks, blackbirds, goldcrest, kingfisher. Firecrest have been seen there but not by me (yet!) You get the odd Heron, but not regular, Obviously coots, moorehen, swans, tufted duck, mallards, cormorants... I could go on...
Plenty to see then, although I should mention that the water bird population is quite low. The've suffered Mink problems in the past, taking young birds and eggs. Still well worth a visit! |

I would love to see a woodpecker, ive been told there are some in sudbrooke woods? a friend said if i picked up a stone & tapped it on a tree i would have a better chance?

You may want to start a new thread now in the "Birds" forum, about the birds you see, rather than in the "Hello" thread. That way you will no doubt have a wider audience, and more replies!
Cheers |
