Thumbs up Hello - again

My first hello got lost in cyberspace. Last week I found a newt in a plastic tub so I Googled "newt" and found you! You take marvellous photos and seem like a nice down-to-earth bunch with a great sense of humour!

I live out in the sticks with my long-suffering husband, in a cottage in Wales, rebuilt from a heap of rubble. It's on a beautiful hillside though, overlooking a delightful valley which echoes to the sound of birds and other creatures night and day. Our "garden" was a nightmare jungle 6 feet high! The only water feature we enjoyed was that which cascaded down the inside of the caravan door whenever it rained! The dream is for a wildlife haven/arboretum. The trees and hedges had been cut for firewood.

Twelve years on, it's been hard work with a lot of setbacks, but the dawn chorus is amazing so is the abundant variety of wildlife. I'm passionate about everything living and rescued all sorts of unusual souls over the years: starfish, baby shark, huge jellyfish; crow, buzzard, magpie, frozen lamb, bats - plus the usual ie abandoned cats, dogs, people, and neglected supermarket plants! Now I'm tired and need a bit of rescuing myself!

"I'm just a country girl, money have I none;
but I have silver in the moon and gold in the morning sun..."

Re: Hello - again

Hello Hez and welcome to WAB.

It sounds as if you are living the sort of life I crave for. I've been looking into the possibility of moving to Ceredigion (I love it there) or maybe even Scotland as that's where my mum grew up.

P.S. Isn't it "silver in the stars" in the song?

Thank you Ann. Yes it is a wonderful life and Ceredigion is a great place. I hope you make it happen whether you choose Wales or Scotland. I enjoyed a holiday in Scotland some years ago. Lovely people, lovely place.

P.S.You're quite right of course, it is "silver in the stars" in the song, but the fabulous full moon was so big and bright, I had to give it some credit!

Hi Carol,

Thank you - I'll do my best. The cottage is about 300 years old with walls 3' thick, 4' at the inglenook end! We were advised to "knock it down and build a bungalow" - as if!

Hez
