| | | Hi from new member Thought I would say a quick hello and introduce myself to the site.
I’m a Police Wildlife Crime Officer based up in sunny Scotland with Strathclyde Police. I've had a life long passion in all things wildlife since I can remember and have been a very busy and active wildlife crime officer for the last 7 of my 10 years police service. I’m also involved in various wildlife and conservation groups throughout Scotland and advise many such groups on issues relating to wildlife crime. One of my main roles is as a coordinator for PAW events Scotland (Partnership for Action against Wildlife crime) and so as well as offering my assistance to members with any queries wildlife crime related, assist in organising public awareness campaigns and training in relation to wildlife crime and legislation.
Hope I can be of some assistance to forum members

I think you're possibly our first WCO on the site and I think it'll be great to here about your work and other events up in Scotland. We've been looking at adding a wildlife crime area to the reference section of the site for quite a while now, so I'm sure we'll be tapping your brains for info and ideas soon enough.
Cheers

Thanks for the welcome and look forward to offering any assistance I can.
One thing I would like to mention for your is of our Scottish wildlife crime web-site, which was set up by PAW Scotland with SNH. Its mainly aimed at school kids but full of information, competitions, ideas and events etc. There’s also a couple of profiles on PAW coordinators in Scotland along with contacts details etc. We launched the site two years ago and are very proud of it. Would appreciate it if you could add the address to your links.
Address is www.snh.gov.uk/wildlifecrimeschools

Nice to see a WCO on board!!
By the way do you get out to Hessilhead in Beith much? If you do could you give Helen a 'hi from Jo at Cuan House Rescue Centre in sunny Shropshire'
She is the hospital manager up there at the Rescue centre, once you meet her you will never forget her (and I mean that in the nicest possible way!!)
Cheers and Welcome to WAB
Jo

I'm down at Hessilhead quite allot and was down there last week seeing what the plans for South Uist are this year. No doubt I’ll be down there as the busy time approaches as I’m usually collecting the sick and needy from Argyle Stirlingshire and North of Glasgow. I'll say hello to Helen for you next time I’m down.
I don't know if you were at Hessilhead when they had Fergus the tame Fox there. He about a year old and was hand reared by someone and then attempted to be released to the wild. As you can imagine, very unsuccessfully as he is so attached to humans. He's going to be permanent at Hessilhead but he's a fantastic specimen and great for getting so close to a Fox. At least you know he'll be well looked after up here.
Regards

Sorry I haven't had time to reply yet, things move so fast on here at the moment I lost track!!
Hessilhead is an amazing place which takes three times as many creatures as we do, but it has been running a lot longer.
As for Fregus, he wasn't there when I was up a few years ago, but Helen told us about him when she came back down here for a break to visit her folks.
Next time you go say hello to Andy and Gaye and tell them Megan and I will see them in Birmingham for the BHPS conference (British Hedghehog Preservation Society). They are guest speakers and are actually giving us an update on the Uist Hogs. Our Vet is also one of the speakers on rehabilitation so we have to attend for moral support Are you going over to Uist to help with collecting Hogs then?
Anyway I hope you don't have a 'busy' year, but at the rate things are going down here it's doubtful I'll be visiting this site much. Already baby doves, Rabbits and pigeons are coming in thick and fast!.
Cheers
Jo

Yes, certainly am planning to go to South Usist , prior to my two week stint on Mull.
SNH have still not decided if the cull is going ahead yet, they may decide relocation is a better and less problomatic option. No surprise there then. But plans are still going ahead for the big rescue.
