Hi from Somerset

Hello there

I'm Anne, and I live in a little village called East Coker, in Somerset. I've always loved nature, but am very much a novice when it comes to knowledge about it. We built a bigger pond here last year, and we have had both frog and toad spawn this year, which is fantastic! We do have a few goldfish as well, as a neighbour moved and left us some, but I don't intend getting rid of them, so they will have to rub along with the wildlife.

I like watching and photographing the many birds we have visiting, but purely in an amateur way!

What else... oh well, I'm a trustee for a sighthound charity, married to Dave who is a computer boffin, in my 40's and enjoy cooking, the supernatural, F1 motorsport and Ford Capris.

Hello Anne

Welcome to WAB.

I am not sure you will find too many Ford Capri enthusiasts here but from the rest of your introduction I am sure you will find lots of other stuff to interest you on this excellent website.

It's been a while since I studied science but I believe Ford Capris + the supernatural = F1.

Good to have you here in any case.

Hello another Ann

Well, I was on several dog forums, and I adopted a longdog - a whippet x greyhound in this case - and then started looking at sighthound specific sites, realised I knew a few of the same people from the other forums, and shortly after this organisation started they asked me to become a staff member, and when we decided to go for charitable status I was asked if I'd become a trustee. Seeing as I am totally in tune with their aims, I was delighted to say yes

Yes, Sight hound is the usual term for the group of dogs also known as Gazehounds. It includes Whippets, greyhounds, Salukis, Wolf and Deer hounds, Afghan hounds, Borzoi etc as well of course the breeds more specific to other countries, such as Galgo Espanol, Chart Polski, Ibizan Hound etc. In our charity's case we also include lurchers and longdogs in our remit, which are dogs having mixed parentage - in the case of lurchers it's having one sighthound parent (though we do stretch to include lurcher crosses with less than 50% sighthound, as a dog in need is a dog in need!) and in the case of longdogs both parents are sighthounds, but 2 different breeds.

Oh thank you! I was obviously having a senior moment - though if I could blame it on the pc and get away with it then that would work for me too

Seem to be, thanks, at least, we've still got the fish plus some babies, and we've still got frogs and taddies, plus a couple of tiny wee new frogs!

LOL! I reckon, myself, that Ford Capris + Supernatural = '67 Chevrolet Impala Ok, that's only going to make any semblance of sense if you watch the TV show 'Supernatural'

I've been wondering where to post this link and thought this would be a good thread, what with the Somerset connection, a chance to say "Hello" to you, and a place where other members may come as well.

A lot of the pics are already on WAB, scattered about the gallery, but here they are all in the one place.

Excellent! Thanks Mark, I'm off for a look-see shortly!

Ooh, I know Chard! Spent a fair bit of time at Ferne Animal Sanctuary, not too far from there.

I suppose being into Capris is fairly unusual, though I know several women who are into cars - but then, I guess I would! I was brought up in a garage, as my dad owned his own bodyshop/garage, and I couldn't tell you what perfume was what, but I feel right at home smelling oil and swarfega! Yes, that makes me very odd I'm sure!

Incidentally, I may live in Somerset but was born and brought up in and around Stratton St. Margaret and Chiseldon, near Swindon, Wilts! I'm a moonraker by birth
