| | Hello from Wales Hi Everyone, just joined this forum, I have ten pet Rabbits, two white doves, love the garden and wildlife, have Hedgehogs coming for supper in the summer, and lots of woodmice live at the bottom of my garden, love the butterflies and bumble bees that that turn up in spring looking for homes, and all the birds that come to be fed in summer and winter, the grey squirrel that has moved in this year, and sometimes I get a big Brown Rat which I catch and relocate to the country.
I love watching all this wildlife, and I have cams all around the garden to watch where the action is, at the moment the cams are on the mice who come for supper everynight, and it will soon be time for the hogs to wake up, the picture at the bottom is one of my hogs snapped from the live cam, last year I had baby blackbirds, and robins, so hoping for some nests in my garden this year.
Living in the centre of a small town I feel very lucky to have all this wildlife visiting my garden. Looking forward to getting to know everyone. Pauline |

| | | Re: Hello from Wales Yes, I sometimes think I m in a zoo Stuart, but with a difference, all my bunnies run free most of the time, don t like to see animals locked up, we did have two females and one male bun, but had an accident before giant lop could get to the vet lol, and now we have ten, all much loved buns, here s a pic of then in the garden being naughty eating my flowers. Thank you for the welcome. Pauline. |

My "designer" bird feeder was very tongue in cheek! It's very utilitarian.. made from bits of this and bits of that.. the birds seem to like it though |

| | | Re: Hello from Wales Lol Glsammy, your just like me, I collect wood off the beach, or use old wood, I find the hogs like old wood, they don't like the smell of anything new, posting the cottage bird feeder I made, the window was from the £1 shop, and the rest made of bits of wood, I mixed up some plaster for the front, smeared it on the wood, and gave three coats of paint, the roof is just wood and bin bags on top to keep the rain out, but I had to spend a bit on the thatch, it came in a big roll, so going to use it for other nest boxes. but this cottage is not all what it seems, as it take s on a more sinister role when its used for rat catching. | | | Re: Hello from Wales Very smart! you've got some lucky birds there. Mine's just a pole with a table and two offshoots for feeders to hang off, Nothing as fancy as yours.
A correction: My camera is a wireless CCTV, not a webcam! although I could link it to my computer, the quality isn't very good, but it does allow us to see what's on the feeder without distrubing them. |

Welcome to WAB. Loved looking at your photos - the bunnies are adorable.
You put me to shame - I live out in the countryside and I'm sure I don't get half as much wildlife visiting my garden as you do! lol.

| | | Re: Hello from Wales Thank you for the welcome Helen, Its a really nice forum with lots of interesting posts, and lots of nice people, did nt know what pic to send you, so had a little look around to find out what you like, and you like rats like me, is nt that funny, I can t let my rats stay as neighbours would complain and blame my Rabbits, so I have to catch them and send to them to the country , and they are a bit naughty taking all the hog and mice food, one of them would nt go in my trap, so made a box with just a small hole for mouse to go in to get his food, and ratty could nr get in, but it did nt stop him trying lol, here s a pic of him having a go lol, so funny. Is your avatar a Polecat, we had two Polecats here a few years ago, one took one of my doves, I caught them and relocated to the country on my friends land where they would be safe, they have since had young. sending you a pic of Toffee out for a walk in the museum grounds. Pauline |

Wow, Pauline! You are so lucky to have Polecats - sorry to hear about your doves though! It was good of you to relocate them as I know some people would have killed them, despite it being illegal to do so. As you'll have guessed, we don't get Polecats in this area though their numbers are slowly increasing (my avatar is one of my pet ferrets).
Did you know the Vincent Society is currently still doing a survey on the range of the Polecat in Britain? Here's the link if anybody is interested in knowing more: http://www.vwt.org.uk/species/polecat.php
Is Toffee a giant lop? He's beautiful. I looked after my workmate's pet Rabbit when she went on holiday last year. He used to go and sat outside the ferret cages, antagonising the ferrets. I don't think he realised that they would have had his guts for garters if they'd got out, bless him

| | | Re: Hello from Wales Hi Louise, yes, I did nt think I would see Polecats in the centre of town, they were hungry and making a mess of everyones bins, people thought they were cats, I did nt tell people or they would put poison down, and when they turned up in my garden after my doves, it would be the Rabbits next, I would have liked them around, but not with the buns, so had to catch them, sending two pics of them caught, taken from a live cam, so not very good.
Yes Toffee s father was a giant loppy, and Toffee is nearly as big, lovely animals, we had an accident , male got in with female lol, got ten now, I kept them all, they are hard work as they are kept free most of the time.
I ve never kept ferrets, but they say they are very friendly animals.
I will have a look at the Vincent Society site, but I only had the two Polecats, I have cams on all the time at night, and I would see them if their were any about, I caught my two about four years ago, so bunnies and doves are safe now. Pauline |

welcome btw | Hi Pheonix, yes, it would be interesting to watch wildlife live on cams, I have sent my cams to friends all over the world through yahoo, a friend in New Zealand watched my Hedgehogs coming for supper, she asked what the black things were that moved around the plate, I told her they were beetles, she said 'wonderful', 'welsh beetles!' . is nt it wonderful someone in New Zealand could watch the Hedgehogs live at from the bottom of my garden all the way from New Zealand. Pic of hog in bed snapped from live cam. Pauline. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
