Would anyone be interested in me starting a Flickr Herts, Beds, Bucks group where we can share our pictures?
No resizing needed and easy to set up.

It might run the risk of dividing the group and making us appear cliquey.

What we need is our own website, like SVW.

But that takes some running, and a fair amount of skill.

In the meantime, how about we appeal for a subforum to ourselves? We can then have threads within that forum, and a sticky like "Hello", where we can reintroduce ourselves.

Events and meets can have individual threads were we can discuss plans, then say what happened and the pictures we took.

The monthly photo competition section would need an organiser. Each month can have a new thread. Eg. "HBB Group June Photo Competition". You could insert a poll for voting after entry deadline (max. 3 votes per person).

If it goes in the Treehouse, it can be invisible to non-members. Personally I'd like to see the situation were you can subscribe so you can see new threads as they appear.

Does anyone think any of this is a good idea?

It might be a great idea, but we need someone who agrees with this to suggest it. If I do it will be pointless (I can't explain, just take it from me). Who is good at explaining, thinks it's a good idea, and is brave enough to suggest this? LOL

Hi Hedgie

I too agree this would be a good idea and may give us more opportunities whilst remaining under the parentage of the site. In my case I am keen that whilst we remain within the forum rules its capabilities are developed to both respond to members whilst respecting the charities organisation and the work of the moderators.

I like the idea of localised knowledge however I wouldn't want it dominate our activity to the point of loosing touch with members across the country.

I've thought of a problem with the poll idea when voting for the picture of the month. You can obviously only have one poll per thread. Anyone got any good ideas to get around this?

I agree with camos first comment - I would never want to put any photos online without resizing them. Also, as the WAB Gallery is searchable by the members name it is quite easy to search for photos posted by members of this group. Perhaps it's worth starting a new discussion on the HB&B WABbers page where we can let other members know that we have posted new pictures?

As far as a poll for photo competitions goes (sorry didn't get around to voting in the first one!) - does it really need to be anonymous? Why not vote in the same way as before, it's just a bit of fun and I'm sure no one is going to get upset if someone doesn't vote for their pic!
