Hi Hedgie

It is quite difficult to get a perfect solution.

The way I was thinking is people would enter their pictures throughout the month on say an entry thread and then during the last week somone or people decide on the best say 6 and these are added to a new thread where there are voting buttons.

Clearly this would mean two threads one to allow entries and then a second to manage the shortlist. We could get over the shortlisting by either asking someone, or taking it in turns to, or even the previous month winner could shortlist the 6. With a definite entry I think it is then quite easy to create a simple voting system for all members.

Yes, the poll need not be anonymous, I agree with RoyW.

I have asked for advice from Admin exactly how we should organise all this. One thread for pictures, comments, voting etc on all competitions looks cluttered, particularly as that thread was put in "Meetings and Events" to give it some kind of forum legitimacy. I need to hear something back from them for my own peace of mind. The last think we need is for them to say the thread is inappropriate or something.

Hi Roy (camo), We have a big difficulty opening even one more thread - there is nowhere to put it. If you go to my thread in "Technical Issues" you will see that I feel we need some sort of input from Admin at this point, before threads start being closed.

The poll is easy to use, but just allows one vote, or possibly a number, but they are equally weighted (this is no good, I don't think). But one vote should be OK?

The other option is that each entry is given a code by the entrant. Eg. camo1, HW3, RW3, Mungo6, PC4. If I entered three pictures, they would be HW1, HW2 and HW3, etc. Then we use Mungo's system, but voters put the code when they vote. This means you just add up the votes for each code at the end.

The reason I am trying to make it simple is because we were confused this morning - I was trying to help Mungo out. Added on top of this the fact that the thread is jumbled, and likely to get more so, I think we need a system.

Any thoughts?

Hi Hedgie

Sorry I missed the point of only one vote and I like the idea of people naming three pictures so I can see my idea will not work. I read your thread requesting moderator guidance and I hope something comes up.

I can't see how we can avoid starting a new thread for each subject and think the coding will work for regular contributors but I am not convinced new members will take the trouble. For this month can we not just start a new threadand encourage your reference code and see how we get on.

Hi Hedgie second post as I run out of words!

I wonder also whether if there are any opportunities for creating a HBB section within the image library we could then ask members to leave a vote as a comment. The beauty of such a system is that comments are referenced to voters, posters will get a message to show they have a vote and it is an easy job to count the comments. To achieve three votes a voter could mark their comment as either first second or third. with such a image section we could then talk about in our own group and it be limited to our group unless someone wanted to look for it.
