Chucky egg

Although I don't live in East Anglia I do like to visit as much as I can. My Auntie lives in Norfolk, we like to pop to Titchwell when we visit her. I also love Minsmere. I would like to know of any other places I could visit in this region.

Hi Helen

Have you tried Snettisham in Norfolk (between Kings Lynn and Hunstanton)? It can involve a bit of a walk along the beach, but if you time it to the incoming high tide you might be rewarded with the spectatcle of thousands of waders leaving the Wash and coming onto the islands in the lagoons behind the beach. You're also not far from Sandringham/Wolferton, which can be good for woodland birds.
I too love Minsmere, but don't get there very often. When I do, I like to visit Dunwich Heath next door too, and see the Dartford Warblers that are there. We have Stone Curlews nearer to home at Cavenham Heath, but I guess they might be leaving before too long. I saw 9 a couple of weeks ago!
And just about anywhere along the North Norfolk coast is lovely - Holme Bird Observatory Nature reserve is great, and only costs around £3.

Hey,
I just joined this morning and this was the first group I came across... I have a caravan in Caister and spent yesterday at Horsey Mere (near Martham). Saw 7 Common Crane's overhead, absolutely awesome, also 7-8 Marsh Harriers. We also saw slein after skein of Pink Foot Geese coming in from the Arctic, calling and calling as they came, magical.. The day before they saw a Bittern in flight (typical, I will see one this year!). We went on a boat trip that leaves from Horsey Staithe with a very experienced birder. He says that Stub Mill in winter is a must for raptors with up to 50! Marsh Harriers to be seen at any one time. From the same place you can get down on the beach at Winterton and see the seals on the beach, over 60 when we went 3 weeks ago, and they will be pupping in the next few months. English Nature has a tea room that is very well placed and does a very good hot chocolate...

Hi all i live in Essex right on the coast so get to see lots of birds around this area.

One of my favorite places in East Anglia is Wicken Fen, it offers so much. In the winter it is home to many raptors including Marsh Harriers, Short Eared Owls & Hen Harriers to name a few. If mamals are your thing there is also the possiblity of seeing the elusive otter or 3 separate species of deer including roe, fallow and the chinese water deer.

my favourite places in East Anglia are Minsmere , Dunwich (woods and heath) and the banks of the river Waveny between Bungay and Lowestoft.
there is so much going on ...
but we are lucky enough to have so many great nature reserves the choise is endless.

I love Aldbrugh and Thorpe-Ness. Toby's walks close to dunwich, Westleton,Walberswick. This part of East Anglia is so unspoilt and natural. The whole areas are bird watchers paradise and nature observors bliss. Then to round a day off in those areas if you have booked, a concert at Snape Maltings.

Fishermen,Camping and caravanning at Marsh Farm, Sternfield. Camp by the well stocked lakes, Lit at night with bridges connecting them.

We have decided to do a complete season in Aldbrugh because there is so much to see.
