| | Worm Database? Hello there everyone,
I am just starting the spring planting of veg and flowers, I've found lots of worms in the garden as the soil is turned. Thinking this was a good sign, I was bragging to a friend about the wonderful soil I have due to the presence of the large numbers of worms. She then told me we have been invaded by a carnivorous worm that eats our natives and doesn't do as much for the soil. Is this true???
The worms in my garden are quite long, with a peachy orange 'sleeve' towards one end. There are a few reddish ones that tend to be quite small.
If anyone knows of a good worm identification book or website, I would be most grateful.
Many thanks. |

| | | Re: Worm Database? It sounds like the worms you are seeing are Earthworms (there are various species). The Flatworm looks rather different. |

| | | Re: Worm Database? Many thanks I am sure they are just earth worms in my garden,(phew). It will teach me not to be so smug about the wildlife in my garden though I didn't even know flat worms were a possibility. Fantastic pictures by the way.
I'm still on the hunt for a good worm book/ website though, as my children are quite taken with collecting them. (They are all released into the compost bin when play time is over). Have tried googling but the choice is vast, any tried and tested recommendations would be much appreciated.
Thanks again. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
