| | | Pathetic article on Countryfile Why on earth is Countryfile doing a report on car accidents?
What on earth has this got to do with the countryside?

| | | Re: Pathetic article on Countryfile I think it was trying to point out the 30odd percent increase in countryside road accidents than in urban/city/motorway places......................surely that relates to countryside matters?
There isnt a sharply defined rule that its only to do with nature on the programme.........?
Or have I missed your point Andrew?
Cheers
Ken

My advice to you is to collect stamps so you can wallpaper your front room later in life. Trust me, I am an expert.

| | | Re: Pathetic article on Countryfile What has Countryfile got to do with anything? it is a cheap to produce program that has now occupied two or three large slots exhorting people to go out into the countryside with their bikes, skateboards, paragliders and other expensive toys, using their cars, and 4x4s causing accidents in an environment they don't try to understand they are just uncomprehending visitors that put the remaining wildlife under even more pressure.

| | | Re: Pathetic article on Countryfile I think Countryfile has generally gone downhill since it moved to the evening slot and got rid of the older presenters, its more like Blue Peter except you don't even get a badge
It's easy to make it safer to drive in the countryside, kill all that pesky wildlife that jumps out in front of me and chop down all those nasty trees you might collide with and while you're at it, ban all those slow farm vehicles that get in the way - problem solved |

| | | Re: Pathetic article on Countryfile Their stats were wrong anyway. There are more reported incidents in the countryside and proportionally more deaths due to higher impact speeds. Not exactly rocket science.

| | | Re: Pathetic article on Countryfile No probs at all about them doing the piece as it was relevant to countryside matters. They could have made it a lot more useful though with tips to everyone on rural driving and warnings about tractors, deer, mud on roads etc and thinking ahead. The problem is exacerbated for young drivers by their lack of forward thinking, speed and the fact that as public transport esp at night is so poor that they do not have the option of catching the bus and often take it in turns to pick their mates up so with a gang of them and probably the radio blaring the concentration is even poorer.
I was about to turn right off the main road into the lane where our farm is last summer and had a real fright. The turn is at the top of a hill with a blind summit and solid double white lines for 100m before hand but that didn't stop some pillock overtaking me just as I was starting to turn the wheel. That is despite the solid white lines, my indicating and slowing down. The driver had been behind me for 100m not 100 miles but would rather risk his and my life rather than wait another 2 seconds behind a tractor. We also get idiots driving at 50mph into our 30mph signed village and almost into our cows that cross the road for milking 4 x a day in summer. Our farm has 2 mile of roadside hedge and every year we get about 3 cars through it, luckily no fatalities yet but I would say that apart from one, every single accident was due to excessive speed and inability to read the road ahead; the 'one' was hitting a muntjac. In most cases if they can get away with it they get the car recovered and the first we know about it is a hole in the hedge and fence that needs repairing and even worse there may be stock out on the road. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
