| | | Seeking name of Brit wildlife TV series. Hi,
I just joined and not sure if this is the right forum section for my question but perhaps some viewers can help me.
For a few years now I've been looking for the name of a wildlife series ( either a six parter or a one off, I don't remember). It aired on either the BBC or perhaps Channel 4. I think it was between 2003 and 2007. It was about 30 mins long and was quite similar to the 'Predators' one. It featured a dramatic voice over and super slow mo with very sophisticated CG to illustrate things. It roamed all over the world and it's unique point was that it used CG to show things we can't see such as the radius of a Lions roar or satellite view showing a lions urine marked territory.
The clip I need showed ants on the hunt and the CG showed the line of ants with them branching out and the line rotating 360 degrees until they had foraged/hunted that whole circumference before moving on. The CG showed this very well.
I have searched for a long time for the name of this show but couldn't find it. Its hard to find because there were quite a few similar ones around that time such as 'Predators' and 'weird nature'. Hope someone can help me identify it. |

It shows ants hunting but couldnt see the CG you mentioned.
Welcome to WAB.

| | | Re: Seeking name of Brit wildlife TV series. Thanks for the answers so far but it's none of the above. The show didn't focus on predators. It was just similar in production design to the shows 'Predators' and also 'Weird Nature'.
It was very glossy in its production values and feaures all kinds of animals from ants to lions to crocodiles to elephants. It often used a satellite view to show things from above in a similar way to the Will Smith move 'Enemy of the state'. |

I Did search all the channels sites before though and they mainly have details of recent shows. |

| | | Re: Seeking name of Brit wildlife TV series. Have you tried "Supersense" and the two series that followed? (Can't remember the names of the later ones).
These used effects and filming techniques similar to those you describe - they were much earlier but perhaps you saw a repeat?

| | | Re: Seeking name of Brit wildlife TV series. This is a real tough one. I've actually been searching for the name of this show for about two years now.
It wasn't Supersense but it was obviously strongly influenced by that show. (actually I called the production company who made Supersense and other similar shows such as 'Swarm' and they wernt sure which show I was describing either.
These are the shows that are similar in style but it is not one of these: Supersense, Weird Nature, Predators, Swarm.
It was very much like the above shows (close up dramatic camera views, CG, No humans on camera, narrator doing over dramatic voice over) but not them.
One key scene I remember was how it showed a zoomed in satellite view of a lions territory with added CG to show where the lion urinates to mark the area out.
The scene I need to finsd is an Ant colony which comes above ground and goes straight for about ten meters then fans out and strips that area then that whole structure rotates about 30 degrees and does the same then keeps rotating until it has stripped the entire 360 radius, then moves on and does the same again in a different spot.
They used glowing time lapsed CG to show this process making the rotation of the Ant's forage path look like a plant moving around to track the sun.
Well, I'm sure it's not my imagination and that this show exists (made and aired between 2003 and 2008) but its proving very hard to identify. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
