Review of Conservation regs

Has anyone else heard that under the proposed review there is a likelihood that the conversion of agricultural buildings will go ahead without planning permission?? This according to the chairman of the Country Landowners Association this morning? This, if it is true and goes ahead, will be devastating for bats, birds and Barn owl!

Country Land and Business Association vice president Harry Cotterell, who told BBC Radio 4's Farming Today:

"Finally we might see a time when human beings are treated with about the same importance as bats, newts and dormice."

Not good news especially together with the change in planning laws. I have a feeling this may cause problems for protecting our wildlife.

So much for seeing the greenest Government ever.

It will be very interesting to see what extent any changes are made. I can't see that it will make much difference to smallscale developments, but on larger scale developments, where financial outlay on environmental protection schemes is higher, I can see it causing some problems. If the EU Habitats Directive is to be 'watered down' will this mean that we will have to re-write the W&C Act again too? I hope not. Then again much of the legislation that we have now is only paid lip service or the least attention and is not enforced to the degree it should be.

If it's a big polluting factory that sets up right next to a wildlife site it might cause major problems....

Its all so very depressing after years of fighting to get the environment and wildlife up the political agenda. It seems as if everything is about to be undone by this wretched government. I hope it is not too late when governments finally realise that environmental protection is not a luxury we can only afford when times are good!

The government are stupid about most things to my way of thinking - I have no patience with the type of person who becomes a minister - they seem blind except where making money is concerned .... despite programmes like Frozen Planet ringing the warning bell loudly government minded folk still think that they can ignore ecological issues ...... they are still stupid enough to think that what happens to wildlife will not impact at a later date on the human race - to say that putting humans before 'bats, newts' etc is so ignorant - I would be very embarrased to make a statement like that - but they are fools and they are in charge - its very frightening - but I think I can safely say man will, despite some of our best efforts, destroy life on earth simply because there are idiots in charge - and it won;t make any difference which colour you put in charge either - cos they are all coloured with the same brush - money first ......... short term gain - keep businessmen and developers happy making more money - so they can defile the earth more ..... depressing on this grim rainy morning - in fact depressing on any morning ......... Yes I can safely say I'm dpressed and on the way to a rant please kick the stool from under me

Sure it has a lot to do with More Votes from new properties and Lots more Council Tax especially Buisness rate....

I don’t get so excited about wildlife protection laws anymore; lots of them are never enforced.
