| | | Keynsham Wildlife Report 2010 The natural environment around Keynsham is in good shape, according to 2010 Keynsham Wildlife Report which has recently been released. Over one hundred species of birds were seen in and around Keynsham last year, from the tiny Goldcrest to unusual Red Kites. Twenty three butterfly species appeared in the area including Essex Skipper and Dark Green Fritillary. Moths included the rare Dusky-lemon Sallow and no less than 41 Elephanty Hawk moths, whilst the nationally scarce and therefore well-named Scarce Chaser dragonfly can often be found by our rivers. The rare Bath Asparagus flower is still well established around Keynsham.
This is an article from the local magazine "The Week in"..... Wow! aren't I lucky to
live here (ain't seen no kites tho')

When I lived in Bristol, I used to cycle out to Keynsham to see my uncle.
That is in the days of the Fry's Chocolate factory, now taken over by Cadbury's I believe.
No idea of what wildlife there was, but I just loved the scenery, even though it was tough cycling for a young lad. I remember there was a farm next to the R.Avon and I always used to stop there to ask the farmer for a drink of water out of his well - so refreshing !
At the time, Keynsham was famous for it's Horace Batchelor adverts on Radio Luxemburg, the forerunner of all the pirate radio stations.
I believe Horace Batchelor was a football pools syndicate and the advert ended with the words: "Horace Batchelor, Keynsham, Bristol"
Memories !

| | | Re: Keynsham Wildlife Report 2010 Many years ago the stream which comes down through the Charlton Bottom area and crosses under the road by the transport cafe then joins the Avon used to have Dippers, Kingfishers, Sand Martins and the occasional Otter.
The report mentions a dead Otter found as a road kill near the cafe.
