| | | Big cat in Hertfordshire I just wondered if anyone else has seen any big cats in Hertfordshire? In July I saw a large black cat lying in a field on the train line just outside Hatfield. There were sheep on the far edge of the field and it looked like the cat was watching them. It was bigger than a dog and I could even see its tail. People think I must have imagined it or it was a dog but there have been other reported sightings in the area and I just wondered if anyone had seen anything? I'm not bonkers honest, I know what I saw! |

| | Re: Big cat in Hertfordshire Hi Kirsty- welcome to WAB. If you look in the Archives there have been at least a couple of long running threads on this topic- which always gets a lot of debate. |

Yes, a lot of people are skeptical, that's why some of us hide away in the social group : Wild About Britain - I'm a Big Cat Believer
Do join us if you wish.
Fascinating tale. Hope someone else confirms the sighting. I totally believe you.

| | | Re: Big cat in Hertfordshire It was about one metre in length (approx) with a long black tail and from what I could see it had a flattish head. It did not react to me as I was on a commuter train that had temporarily stopped just by Brookmans park station. I watched it for only about a minute before the train pulled away. It was lying in quite long grass. Im not really looking for anyone to validate my sighting, just wondered if anyone else had seen anything. I have been researching sightings (well, I say research, just googling it really!) and there seem to have been sightings of simlilar cats along the trainline between Welwyn and Potters Bar over the last few years. I wasnt really a 'believer' as such before this, hadnt really given it much thought and I know ones eyes can decieve, however Im pretty sure I know what I saw, and thought this could be a good place to ask if anyone else had seen any thing similar. |

| | | Re: Big cat in Hertfordshire No idea what you saw of course, and I do have an open mind on the subject.
But there are some big domestic cats around.
My eldest daughter took on a rescue cat a few years ago. He was big. Very big.
They took him to the vets for all the checks etc, and he told them it was less than a year old. To which my son-in-law replied in horror, "You mean he's still growing! LOL!
And he did grow. A lot more.
See him wandering out of the woods etc from distance and most people would get back in their cars and drive away.
Cheers,
Bryan
