| | | Re: Our Wildlife Needs A VOICE Just been reading this article on a similar vein. Wildlife groups 'are failing to protect nature' - Nature, Environment - The Independent
It found it amusing and sad that RSPB man Mark Avery bemoaning the fact that conservation bodies are not working together, when the RSPB are somewhat infamous among other conservation bodies for throwing their weight around and not exactly being a team player.
Sadly most MPs seem to see wildlife as an annoying planning problem that gets in the way of lots of tiny profitable homes for them and their mates to make lots of money from |

| | | Re: Our Wildlife Needs A VOICE 38* are still on the case. Isn't it ironical that it takes a hard left pressure group to do what non-political groups should be doing?

| | | Re: Our Wildlife Needs A VOICE How about everyone contacts their MP and asks them what they know about wildlife, prompting them to join WAB and actually post as a sign of good faith.
Nah! they would lie.

| | | Re: Our Wildlife Needs A VOICE Unfortunately, wildlife/countryside/green issues have always been a fashion in politics that is rarely 'in' unless MPs want to win a few more votes. So the only time it is fashionable is at election time and not always then.

| | | Re: Our Wildlife Needs A VOICE I agree this is such an important issue. It came home to me since I have been involved fighting an incineration plant development in Derby - common lizards on site in that case - check out my thread in the forum - Where is the Protection for some more info. My experience is that often what you think is protected isnt protected to the level we as people on the street would think of as protected - for example a common lizard is a BAP protected species but you can catch them, man handle them, home them in manmade hibernacula, even spray their site with herbicide but you dont have to prove that any of your actions have had any impact on the colony and the species habitat - its actual home isnt protected. How do you defend wildlife when this wishy washy protection is in place. With changes in planning I can only see it getting worse ! |

| | | Re: Our Wildlife Needs A VOICE I get the feeling that all our seperate wildlife groups should come together and agree to one spokesman, instead of chasing their own individual agendas. Time enough for that when we have a countryside for wildlife to live and spread into.
I nominate Chris Packham

| | | Re: Our Wildlife Needs A VOICE I think you are spot on nightshade, I think we should involve more groups of people that need the countryside for their hobby’s ,900,000 fishing licences sold a year plus there must be thousands of ramblers, if all these people had one conservation spokesman we would have some serious power.
And yes Chris Packham for me.
All the best Steve |

| | | Re: Our Wildlife Needs A VOICE Ok then Steve I leave it for you to organise
So how do we go about getting names and addresses of organisations to approach (and quickly) to set up a decent opposition to the destruction of our countryside.
Considering how important this could be I am a little dismayed that it has attracted 199 views and only 9 replies
How do I get hold of Chris Packham for a start? http://www.chrispackham.co.uk/contact.htm
