Hi all.
My good lady, myself and our two youngsters have just returned home from a long weekend break in County Durham. We managed to visit a lot of reserves, a few pubs and a trip to The Beamish Museum. But the highlight of our trip was a visit to Farplace Animal Rescue.
Jan, very generously, gave us a personal guided tour of the rescue centre and their grounds. What really shone through was her passion for every single animal in their care. They had at the time of our visit: pigs, goats, sheep, ponies, domestic foul, ducks, a peacock, ferrets, cats, rabbits, 2 Giant African Land Snails, 2 gulls, a squirrel, a young fox, pigeons and gerbils. (apologies for any omissions Jan) A full time job dosen’t even come close to describing their workload!
Jan’s tour took us through their woodland and their two pasture fields.....a wonderful experience. Thank you so much Jan.
At this point I’m going to be bold and tell all that all of this doesn’t come cheap. Their latest acquisition, a neighbouring field, came at great personal financial cost to Jan and Gareth .
This new field has two dilapidated barns in it. Cash is desperately needed to bring these buildings into a usable condition and expand the Rescue’s capacity. As soon as the building work starts I’m off to lend a hand, anyone else fancy getting their hands dirty, their cheque book out or provide a loving home for one of the animals I’m sure it would be appreciated!
OH did I mention......the view is to die for!!!!
Not sure if I’m allowed to post a link to their website but Google
