| | | New Bird Feeding Station Hello All,
I have set up a bird feeding station in my back yard/garden. It's been 3 days and I haven't seen any birds yet. The feeding station has nuts and seeds. I see a few sparrows, starlings and blackbirds around but none at the feeder.
Any advice on what to do please ?
Thanks,
Karthik |

It takes a while for the birds to "find" the new source of food but give it a few weeks and chances are you'll be complaining they're eating you out of house and home!

| | | Re: New Bird Feeding Station Hello and welcome. My feeder station is not very active at the moment.Only an occasional green finch in the morning. Most of the birds are out in the fields and hedgerow at this time of the year.Plenty of natural foods their for them. They will be back and around the station when the weather changes.Keep the fresh water topped up.Some may come for a drink.Keep the seed hoppers clean as well.

| | | Re: New Bird Feeding Station You might get quick results you try a feeder with sunflower "hearts" (without shells). Mine attracts a lot of goldfinches, sparrows and tits with occasional robins and rare visits from (in the past) greenfinch, siskins, nuthatch and redpoll on the feeders and collared dove, woodpigeon, blackbirds, dunnock, chaffinch and bullfinch on the ground after spillage.
My feeders are pretty busy still - they eat as much as I put out in a day. As I type this there are five goldfinches and three sparrows on the feeders, with a collared dove after what they drop on the ground!
Hello and welcome by the way!

| | | Re: New Bird Feeding Station It took at least a week before birds started "finding"my bird feeder...I too have a couple of feeders with sunflower hearts and have had really good results in the last month.Starlings are first to arrive in the morning(dont seem to come back for the rest of the day)then come sparrows, adult and juvenile robins and bluetits.I have had goldfinches, greenfinches,a chaffinch, great tits and even a greater spotted woodpecker on the fat balls! I have a ground feeder which is used by blackbirds, dunnocks, collared doves and wood pigeons(I do try not to buy bird food with too much grain and corn as it encourages too many pigeons who crowd out the smaller birds)

| | | Re: New Bird Feeding Station It could be several months before you get any birds, as others have said its just a case of waiting. Im sure you will get some activity through the winter. |

| | | Re: New Bird Feeding Station We have a wealth of experience in attracting wild birds into our own gardens. Now we want to support and encourage others so they can enjoy watching and interacting with wild birds too.
Got this the other day from Goulds Garden Centre in Weymouth, Dorset. |
