Ate my first wild blackberry today (just the one!) and passage waders are starting to appear on the local gravel pits. The rowans are groaning with berries and have been for a few weeks now while the weather forecast for the following week is, shall we say, grim.
Where is the record-breaking summer we were promised?

I was also wondering if autumn was coming early too. The Rowan trees seem to have red berries already. Is this early?

David | I think this is fairly normal + have seen them locally as well as blackberries. |

We had blackberries setting early in June,think the early "summerlike"sunshine caused that.They withered away but now there are more blackberries around but they are very sharp!!
We have conkers forming on the some of the horse chestnut trees too-indeed I first noticed that happening in early june!!Will try to get some photos this weekend-that is if its not pouring with rain,looks like a nasty weekend of weather in store.....

I have noticed gatherings of birds in the hedgerows. And the Swifts are flying in formation now. I'd start a thread "what will you miss most about summer" but I don't want to upset sunny.

Blimey, Sunday's forecast looks awful!  Heavy rain and gales! Especially in Wales!
That's the day I'm travelling, so hoping things get better after that!
