Hoopoe
i believe i saw a Hoopoe in Hampshire today just off junction 5 on M27, bold as brass on the verge of a busy roundabout. Wondering if anyone saw it to confirm as it was mid rush hour. I am not a bird watcher by any stretch of the imagination but not sure what else it could be. Bit bigger than a pigeon, pinky head and chest with black and white wings, did not see its crest but was driving. is there anything else it could have been?

Hi Martha and welcome to WAB

Your bird sounds like it could have been a Hoopoe....but then again, it could well have been a Jay!

I've no idea if there have been any reported sightings of a Hoopoe in/around that location and I don't know how you'd go about finding out.

I guess we'll never know what it was for sure!

The long curved bill should have been obvious if it was a Hoopoe.
