| | | Photo complaint Sorry im not sure where to put this
I have a complaint about the photos on here.
every time I need or want to post a photo up I have to crop right into it so it fits the maximum file size,
so if I took a photo of a whole bird I would have to crop in so only its head is left!
why does the forum not allow photo's from flickr and the like,
It could at least increase the maximum file size if it going to be so stubborn

| The mods told me this was because spammers could/were posting up legit pictures then changing the source image to porn etc...
Though I rather suspect an addon exists to limit the use of the image tag to users with a minimum post count hence any spammer needs to stay under the radar for a week or two before they can spam images.
Nontheless you are restricted to using only the Gallery and library, both of which mean you hand over all and any rights to WAB, "donating" the image, if you will. |

You are not handing over your rights - you are sharing them with WAB. You still retain copyright to all material you submit to WAB. The key term in the license you grant to WAB when you do so is "non-exclusive".

The fact that there are size limits on the photos that can be uploaded restricts the potential usage that could otherwise be got from them - and many contributors (myself included) upload files that are well below the maximum limit set by WAB.
If you are worried about loss of copyright then you really shouldn't upload any images with 'usable' file sizes anywhere on the internet (even if they are marked as copyright protected) because it isn't easy to discover unauthorised usage, let alone get compensation if it does happen. |

The only "control" you lose by posting images on WAB is that you can't stop people from downloading the images and using them on their own web sites. But you can't stop them from doing that from Flickr, or any other image hosting site, either so why do you think you are still in control of images posted there?
Flickr is owned by Yahoo!. You might want to take a look at the Yahoo! Terms of Service - Yahoo! UK Terms Centre - particularly section 8, paras B and C. Does any of that wording look familiar? The only difference I can see between Flickr and WAB is that Flickr lets you delete your images whereas WAB does not due to the profusion of little red crosses that would appear in forum posts where images used to be if we did.
