Strange Eggs

Hi Everyone,

I am asking this for my friend. She moved into her house 6 months ago and this weekend went about sorting out the front garden. They dug up some weed control sheeting and underneath the sheeting inbetween some cracks in the soil were 3 eggs which she described to be small birds eggs. She said they were light orange in colour with darker orange specs. What was confusing is that the sheeting must have been down a number of years as there was also shrubs etc so would have thought they would have rotted down by now. So not sure that they would be birds eggs? They left the eggs their and by the next morning they had gone. They get a lot of magpies so think they have had away with them.

Any ideas what they could be from?

Shame they are gone. Rather than being laid by a bird, - for all I know they could be laid by a snake or reptile.

In millimetres or fractions of an inch - how big, again?

Eggshells , being mainly of a calcarous/limey nature, ( as is bone) can take some time to crumble away.
