In the first or second week of June me and a friend are going on a trip through Lincolnshire, Norfolk and Hertfordshire in order to try and see the Monk Parakeets there before they are all caught or culled. We have three days for the trip, and at present we are trying to find other species and sites to visit on the way down and back up. At the moment we are collecting sites with interesting species, grading them on how easy the animal will be to see, and then we will finalise the route for the journey.
So far we have thought of:
Golden Pheasant (Wolferton Triangle, Norfolk)
Chinese Water Deer (Woodwalton Fen) (perhaps Muntjac here too)
Monk Parakeet (Borehamwood, Herts)
Edible Dormouse (Dancers End Nature Reserve, Herts)
Golden Oriole (Lakenheath Fen)
Signal Crayfish (somewhere near the Lee Navigation?)
Stone Curlew (Weeting Heath)
I would like to add more possibilities to the list - Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Hawfinch, Swallowtail Butterfly - in fact there are a lot of butterflies that I have never seen - most of the fritillaries for example. Maybe some more mammals, or birds.
I just wondered if anyone could think of reliable sites for any of the species above, or any other fantastic animals that I shouldn't miss out on whilst I am in the area. Native or introdcued, don't really mind. Thanks everyone.
