| | | Re: help with finding a fox It depend on how use to people your foxes are. we use to live in Weston Super Mare and the foxes there were very bold, lying on top of my hedge sunbathing in the daytime, coming up to the back door and looking in the kitchen, so it would have been easy to take a picture.
In Cheshire I have found it much more unpredictable when and where I see foxes, and they don't hang around if they see you. If I were going to photograph them I think I would have to go out late in the evening or early in the morning and lie in the fields down wind near the set and wait.
You could try asking the farmers near you, they usually know where foxes are.

| | | Re: help with finding a fox Hi Amanda, I presume that you have been looking for the normal field signs for foxes? In my area (Newark) the foxes tend to have regular routes they will patrol and you can sometimes see the regular trails through the grass. If you see anything like this it can be helpful to walk along it and you may find fox poo. This can be left in a prominant place and on occasions tapered with fur etc in it. If the route goes under a fence etc you may also find hair which will again tell you if its fox or badger etc.
I have to say its not easy with Foxes in the countryside in my area, although if you go into the centre of Nottingham in the early hours you are more than likely to see quite a few.

Mind you, they'll probably have heard you coming by that time.
Good luck with that
Jack.

I would not recommend looking for foxes if you have no field experience. Let them come to you instead
.
This is a good time of year for seeing foxes because of the early sun rise. Get out early morning at first light and sit in a position to give a good view along a hedgerow. Be prepared to stay there for as long as possible. You may not have any luck the first time but persevere. Try different sites, but keep returning to each one, sooner or later you'll get lucky.
Patience and determination is all you need. If you can stand with your back to the rising sun,or in the shade, and with wind blowing across or into your face then you increase your chances of not giving away your presence through sight or smell.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Dave

| | | Re: help with finding a fox I've also seen a fox in broad daylight before. Not far from my house, there is a bench on a country lane which overlooks a farmer's field; in this field the farmer used to leave an area of long grass in the middle. Not sure if this was to encourage rabbits, possibly for shooting, or for wildlife value; however obviously the rabbits were common on this field. Sitting on this bench I glanced up to see a fox skulking about. Maybe think like a fox; get where their prey is, and they will eventually come to you | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
