| | | Wildlife Programme Title? Can anyone out there help!
I was discussing wildlife programmes with my brother when I remembered Jack Hargreaves, who was a presenter on HOW. He had two nature programmes on T.V. many years ago.
In one the theme was that he took a young city boy into the country and taught him about wildlife etc. The other was just Jack sitting recalling old memories about the countryside and his experiences. Both were really good and very informative.
I think this is one for the oldies as I was very young when I watched it.

| | | Re: Wildlife Programme Title? I can remember the music that went with it and I can certainly remember watching him making flies for fishing. Black and white in those days too. I can also recall his calm voice and unhurried ways. He also really loved the fish he caught and was gentle with them.
Aaah..the good old days!

| | | Re: Wildlife Programme Title? I remember Out of Town, but not Country Boy. Also remember Jack on How. Loved his laid back style + what to a small boy seemed like a font of all knowledge. He was that breed of countryman who understood his environment in an unsentimental way, yet had respect for it. Guess these days he wouldn't have been shown puffing on his pipe (another critically endangered species?). |

| | | Re: Wildlife Programme Title? He was a true country gent. I looked him up and found that, as well as presenting TV shows, he was instrumental in the setting up of ITV in the early days of television and was on the board of Southern TV. He sadly died in 1994 aged 83.
Cor' thinking about seeing him sitting in his little shed, puffing on his pipe and gently telling his tales of the country.......... where did I park my time machine |

Aaah..the good old days! | I can recall him talking lovingly about a Yellow Wagtail that flitted around the banks of a river. You guessed it, it was actually a Grey Wagtail. Nice chap but he did make quite a few howlers like that.
