| | | Re: The Big Society Badger Kill I wish someone would sort the issue of getting cattle vaccinated (ok it's not 100% guarantee against tb) but it would be a start.
All mammals can carry tb- so are they going to eradicate everything?

And as I have said elsewhere, if badgers are a source of Bovine TB, then I do have great sympathy with cattle farmers. I enjoy the beef they produce enormously, and want them to be able to get a reasonable living out of producing it.
But have all alternatives to slaughter really been looked at?

| | | Re: The Big Society Badger Kill We have a licensed injectable vaccine for badgers, and have done since April last year, which is being used in Stroud and will soon be used by the National Trust.
An oral vaccine (much cheaper to use, although even the injectable vaccine is cheaper to deploy than a cull) has been developed, and Irish clinical trials should be completed next year. The UK haven't even started such trials, AIUI, so we won't be able to deploy the oral vaccine widely until at least 2015.

In the end it has more to do with pesky badgers digging up their land than bTB | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
