| | | Re: The Old Country (Jack Hargreaves) I was in the fishing trade for twenty odd years and over that time I was told a few stories about Jack Hargreaves, one such story was that when he caught a fish in the programs they paid him a bit extra, it was known as Jacks beer money, I would love to know if this was true.

| | | Re: The Old Country (Jack Hargreaves) Jack was always spoke of wanting to meet the fellow who seemed to get attention spreading this story around some local pubs. I am J's stepson, Simon, and sat in on many of his broadcasts and location shoots. There's one programme - I wish I could find it again - where Jack invites the rumour maker you mention to get in touch. He never did. Best wishes S |

| | | Re: The Old Country (Jack Hargreaves) I used to love watching Jack Hargreaves,How,Out of Town,Old Country and who remembers the programme Country Boy that was from the late sixties?
Sadly i believe the lad who was in the programme with him passed away at a young age.
Someone mentioned Graham Dangerfield,he was the first naturalist i saw on tv,or remember seeing.
He was a daredevil, drove a landrover, wore a chunky sweater and had a beard as all real men do.
I can still recall him putting on a pair of boots with spikes on the bottoms and climbing a tall tree to view a Crows nest.
Graham Dangerfield,Phil Drabble and Jack Hargreaves, not any real countrymen on tv these days.
Jack would have been about 100 if he was still alive. |

I was also captivated by a YouTube clip where he shows how to make a cudgel. You could get a feel for his work there first. See if you like it.

| | | Re: The Old Country (Jack Hargreaves) Jack Hargreaves. By, that name takes me back to my childhood. How I loved those programmes. I'd check him up later by asking my Kimbolton Great Auntie if he'd told the truth. Never caught him out once.
Thanks for the memory

| | | Re: The Old Country (Jack Hargreaves) I remember the series 'Country Boy'. The young boy always asked a question although he always knew the answer. For example he might say "Thats a Wren isn't it" then Jack Hargreaves would then explain all about the Wren. It was a brilliant series. Who was the young boy who starred in it

As well as Out of Town, I used to watch him on telly as kid when he did 'How' (with the great Fred Dineage amongst others).
