| | | My Balcony I only have a tiny balcony outside my 4th floor flat window and decided that I would set up some feeders for the birds, I taped an old broomhandle diagonally across the railings, and set up three feeders, one with fatballs, one with mixed seed, and the third with suet pellets, I also put out bread daily for the pigeons.
The pigeons however decided everything was for them, and soon were grasping onto the fatball holder and reaching over to eat all the other stuff.
I decided to only have one feeder up then, and left the suet pellet feeder, but my crafty pigeons are now hover pigeons who can hang on with one claw and twist their head down to reach in while flapping their wings to*hover*!
I also found this cheeky little mouse who lives in the drain and runs out to grab some food and runs back down the drain
Not too sure about keeping the mice there though, I might have to catch it and take it away from the flats.

Amazing just what you can do, high-up with a balcony. In fact, - inspirational. |

| | | Re: My Balcony Just heard a lot of flapping on my balcony and thought it was my *hover pigeons*,I was surprised to see it was a young Jay, I have never seen any Jays here before, not really surprising as I live in the middle of a housing estate in central London, but this youngster was trying the pigeons trick of grabbing the perch of the feeder with one claw and trying to tilt his head enough to get at the suet pellets.
It has been twice in the last half hour, so hopefully I might have something other than blue tits, sparrows and pigeons as a regular visitor.

You could hang a miniature Buddliah on the wall each side of the balcony, as long as you could reach to water it....That would bring in the bees and B'flies | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
