| | | Unidentified hole/burrow in lawn Hello,
We have just found a hole/burrow in our lawn and was wandering whether anyone on here could shed some light about the creature that has produced it please? It is approximately 2cm in diameter (see photos) and does not have any earth around its entrance so whatever made it has cleared up the excavated soil.
Is it a bit too small to be a vole or a mouse? Could it be a bee? Or is it too early for them to be coming out? Also its not in a bank but in a flat lawn.
Any ideas would be welcomed :-)
Many thanks

| | Re: Unidentified hole/burrow in lawn What I would ask to to NOT do is poke long sharp sticks down it,
NOR
Flood it full of water.
NOR
Pour any inflammable liquid down it & ignite it.
Now,strange and over-alarmist as that might sound - that's EXACTLY what someone else did after finding a similar hole in their garden.
When I read their account I didn't know whether to shed a tear or laugh at the negativity & thoughlessness of their deeds......... |

I dont know but keep an eye out to see if anything comes and goes can you see it from the house through bins or go out after dark with a torch and have a look. |

| | | Re: Unidentified hole/burrow in lawn Hehe Brocakat, dont worry, we are nature lovers so wont do anything of the sort. We might set up a camera with night vision directed in its general vicinity to see if anything is still using it though.
I take it nothing fled in terror when they poked a stick, poured water and ignited it? We are quite intrigued as to our little holes owner. Why would anyone do that and then own up to it on a wildlife forum?!!
Kayleigh - thank-you for the welcome :-) we will keep an eye out, i just thought we might have been being dense and its owner was something trully obvious to someone on here!
