| | | Re: Who do you most admire? Chris Packham; I seem to recall him as being really annoying when I was younger, now I think he is just slightly annoying but also highly knowledgeable and engaging, he makes Springwatch / Autumnwatch eminently er... watchable.
Simon King; again, very knowledgeable and makes some fantastic wildlife films.
David Attenborough; of course.
Me dad-in-law, Mr. Alan Shaw ; Birdwatcher extraordinaire, makes a few cracking films himself as well.

| | | Re: Who do you most admire? Two spring to mind .... Oliver Rackham, for helping us understand the British landscapes and how habitats have formed, and Rachel Carson for drawing attention to how we were (and still are) destroying the environment. Both give us an idea of the far ranging impacts that humans have on the living planet. |

| | | Re: Who do you most admire? Not "wildlife" but relevant to WABbers. W.G.Hoskins, The Making of the English Landscape. A wonderful book! First published 1955, out of print now. Emeritus Professor of Local English History at Leicester University, Reader in Economic History at Oxford. He was rather like Gilbert White in that he could get discursive but take you along with him. Borrow a copy, steal one from your library, if needs must do a book search and pay for one but read it!

Ric | Don't need to steal borrow, borrow or pay for, I have this and agree it is a seminal book that underlies so many things we need to consider. It is a shame that it is out of print, an update would be very welcome.

| | | Re: Who do you most admire? I agree, I saw Chris Packham a few years ago ,as he gave a talk in our village. Extremely sensible ideas, and quite enjoyable. I also think Virginia Mckenna has helped the lions out a fair bit, also in my all time best film which I first saw years ago Ring of Brightwater ....So sad. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
