| | squirrels how do i attract squirrels to my garden? Is it as simple as putting up a squirrel feeder with peanuts? I suspect they may visit at night as last summer my strawberries, blackberries and plum tree and some of my apples were eaten by something!
or do i have to live in an area near a forest or something like that?
sorry but i am inexperienced, any advice would be welcomed thanks |

| | | Re: squirrels Obviously squirrels prefer to have some trees around so they can go up them if they feel threatened, and feeding them would attract them too.
However unless you have a very large garden be careful not to annoy your neighbors as squirrel do raid birds nests for eggs so are not always welcome. |

| | | Re: squirrels Hi vegandaffodil welcome to WAB
If you feed the birds then you will also attract squirrels if you have any near by.
Most kinds of wildlife would be attracted to your fruit crops but if they are being taken at night the most likely culprits would be mice and rats.
Though squirrels are bonny to look at I would not actively encourage them, they are voracious predators during the nesting season and in personal opinion, vermin just as much as mice and rats, and like mice and rats though you wouldnt necessarily want to harm them it would not be advisable to encourage them.

| | | Re: squirrels ok thanks for the advice. i am going by my parent's garden, they used to have a squirrel visit them regularly and when my dad used to toast himself a waffle for breakfast each morning, he'd put one in for the squirrel also and put it out on their patio table and not long after they see him come along and grab it and sit on the table eating it. looked so cute. he's stopped coming now tho, i guess he's died. i will put my new feeder up and see what happens. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
