Apparently this is quite conmon on surveys.

I'll have to take issue with this comment here, I have done a large number of reptiles surveys and have never yet come across an animal that has been trapped or killed by the tin being replaced.

If you already have slow worms in your area then in my experience they will use anything that takes their fancy. I have found them under discarded carpet, a pile of house bricks and even under an old cash box. Experiment with different materials but keep an eye open for signs of rats.

and under old rocks in the rockery etc found lots of young there
